So far we've seen a pretty steady trickle of leaks relating to HTC's next flagship smartphone, codenamed "M8," including spec reports and a possible image of its on-screen navigation buttons. Today that trickle turns into a full-blown stream with what may be the biggest M8 leak yet.
An image of what's said to be the backside of the HTC M8 has been posted by HTCFamily.ru. The photo shows a phone that looks fairly similar to the original HTC One, but there are two major differences that are worth taking note of. First up is the dual-LED flash next to one of the rear cameras, which differs from the One's single LED setup.
And the second change? Well, notice how I just said "one of the rear cameras?" Yeah, this purported M8 features two rear shooters, with one in the same spot as the OG One's shooter and a second resting directly above it.
Besides those two camera tweaks, there are a couple of other small changes that've been made on the M8's rear. The Beats Audio logo found on the original One has gone missing on the M8, which is not entirely surprising considering that HTC sold its stake in Beats, and the mic hole in the top-most plastic accent has changed sides.
In addition to sharing this photo of the M8's backside, HTCFamily.ru has posted what looks to be an outline of the front of the phone. It's tough to glean many details from the basic image, but it does support the rumors that the M8 will feature on-screen navigation buttons, and the lines at the top and bottom of the unit's face suggest that the One's BoomSound front-facing speakers will also make the cut into the M8.
So is this indeed HTC's next flagship smartphone? We won't know for sure until Peter Chou formally introduces us to the unit, which is rumored to be happening in late March, but these images do line up with what we've heard about the M8 so far. For example, one rumor claimed that the HTC M8 features dual camera sensors to help produce images with a better depth of field and focus.
Another recent report suggested that the M8 looks "strikingly" like the original One, just like the device in this newly-leaked photo. Some folks might think that it'll be boring or unimaginative if the design of the M8 closely resembles that of the One, but considering that the One received quite a bit of praise for its aluminum body and curved backside, it may not be so bad if the M8 and One share a similar look and feel.
What do you think of the M8 as it's shown in these images? Would you be happy with this device as HTC's next flagship smartphone?
