It's a new month, and as I'm sure many Android fans are aware, that means that Google's got a fresh set of Android platform distribution numbers to share with us. El Goog posted its newest stats tonight, sharing the results of the data that it collected from the Play Store during the 7-day period ending today, Feb. 4.
The newest flavor of Android, version 4.4 KitKat, grew from a 1.4 percent share in January to a 1.8 percent share in this month's results. Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean saw some growth as well, moving from 59.1 percent to last month to 60.9 percent in the latest stats, enough to reclaim its title of King of the Dessert Hill. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich fell to 16.1 percent during the survey period.
Moving on to pre-4.x versions of Android, we've got version 3.2 Honeycomb holding onto the 0.1 percent share that it's had for months now, followed by version 2.3 Gingerbread and its 20 percent share of the Android pie. Finally, Android 2.2 Froyo held steady at 1.3 percent.
The trends in this latest batch of stats are fairly similar to the ones that we saw last month, with KitKat and Jelly Bean growing while all of Google's other mobile desserts either held their position or lost market share. While it's kind of disappointing to see that Android 4.4 KitKat managed to grow just 0.4 percent from last month's figures, it is good to see both it and Jelly Bean continuing to gain market share at the expense of older versions of Android. Here's to hoping that with KitKat updates for devices like the U.S. HTC One variants slated to roll out soon, we see even more growth from Android 4.4 next month.
