In the months leading up to its announcement of the G2, LG kept building hype for its new handset by dropping a tidbit or two of information about the device every few days. Now it looks like the Life's Good crew will be employing the same strategy for the G Pro 2.
Just a few days after announcing that the G Pro 2 will make its official debut in February, LG tonight shed some light on the camera technology that it plans to include with its next flagship smartphone. The device will come equipped with a 13-megapixel camera along with what LG refers to as "OIS Plus," which is an improved version of Optical Image Stabilization technology that can compensate for a user's shaky hands to help produce a clearer photo. LG also says that its OIS Plus tech can also help to churn out crisper images in dark environments.
Along with its OIS Plus technology, LG said tonight that the G Pro 2's camera will be capable of recording Ultra HD (3840x2160) video and slow-motion video. The 13-megapixel shooter will also feature a burst shot mode. The front-facing camera on the G Pro 2 will be a 2.1-megapixel shooter with improved performance over its predecessor.
When the phablet craze was just getting underway a couple of years ago, many smartphone manufacturers used screen size as a way to help their products to stand out in the market. Now that display sizes have surpassed 6 inches, those device makers have turned to other features as differentiators, with the camera being a popular choice that many firms focus on. LG appears to be going that route with its G Pro 2, and it'll be interesting to see how the OIS Plus technology paired with the G Pro 2's 13-megapixel shooter compares to the regular OIS found on the G2.
