Looks like there's some bad news and some good news for HTC customers this afternoon. Why don't we get the bad news out of the way first so that we can wash the taste out with some good news afterward?

HTC President Jason Mackenzie posted a letter today announcing that the Android 4.4 updates for the U.S. carrier-branded HTC One models, which were slated to begin arriving this week, will miss the rollout deadline that HTC placed on itself. Mackenzie doesn't offer an explanation for the delay, saying only that "the software development process does not always follow a linear path." Thankfully the added wait won't be long, as the exec goes on to say that it shouldn't take more than an extra week or two for each version of the HTC One to be bumped up to KitKat.

The news of the HTC One's Android 4.4 delay is definitely a bummer, especially considering how much effort HTC has been putting into providing prompt updates for the One in recent months. As Mackenzie notes, though, unexpected delays can crop up while working on software updates. The bright side is that at least HTC is being transparent about the delay rather than leaving its customers in the dark.

In happier news, it appears that the AT&T One X has started to receive its update to Android 4.2.2, just as expected. Several users in the AT&T and Android Central forums report that they've gotten the update, which appears to be arriving in two parts: First a 16MB update hits, then a 537MB update follows.

Neither AT&T nor HTC has posted an official changelog for the update, but HTC has created a web page that lists which Sense 5 features will and won't be included with the One X's update. For example, the One X will get new goodies like HTC BlinkFeed, a battery percentage notification and updated versions of the app tray, lock screen, camera interface and notification shade.
