Google has offered several of its previous Nexus smartphones in black and white color options, and the Nexus 5 is no different. One thing that could end up changing with the latest Nexus handset, though, is the addition of colors beyond the basic black and white hues.
Some images have been posted to Twitter by user @artyomstar that claim to show several retail boxes for a red version of the Nexus 5. The packaging looks similar to the standard N5 box, showing the front of the device on one side and the rear on another side, and we can see the words "RED RED" on several of the boxes. The phone itself is reminiscent of the white Nexus 5, meaning that it's got a black front with a red earpiece and then a red backside with black camera housing.
Rumblings of new Nexus 5 colors have been going around quite a bit in recent weeks, but the leaks that we've seen so far haven't been the most convincing ones that we've ever seen. There's a chance that the images that've been shared today are fakes, and the fact that there's no side view of the device on the front of the packaging like there is with the white Nexus 5 is kind of strange. The rest of the boxes look pretty official, though, and Google already offers a Nexus 5 bumper in a similar hue.
The good news is that if this device is indeed the real deal, the fact that they're boxed up and being placed into shipping packages means that it shouldn't be too long before an official announcement is made. What do you make of these red Nexus 5 images? Will you buy one of these phones if they're legit?
UPDATE: @artyomstar isn't done posting photos quite yet. Two new images have been shared that purportedly show the red Nexus 5 itself, both from the front and behind. Check out the extremely bright handset below.
