Last week, a Samsung executive teased that her company's flagship Galaxy S5 will debut sometime around March or April and that it'll likely feature a refreshed design. Unfortunately for all of the spec hounds out there, she didn't touch on any of the actual features that the S5 will come to market with. The rumor mill isn't quite as tight-lipped, though, and today it has shared some alleged spec details for the upcoming Galaxy S5.
According to a new report from SamMobile, Samsung is planning to include a 2560x1440 Super AMOLED display in its next flagship, up from the 1920x1080 screen found on the Galaxy S 4. The size of the display is still up in the air, but 5.25 inches is said to be one possibility. Also expected to be included with the Galaxy S5 is a 16-megapixel rear camera, Android 4.4 KitKat and either an Exynos 6 or Snapdragon 805 processor, depending on whether or not the unit includes 4G LTE connectivity.
Interestingly, today's leak also claims that Samsung will offer two versions of the Galaxy S5: One made out of metal and one made of plastic. The metal unit would be the more expensive of the pair, with a price tag estimated at around 800 Euros ($1092 USD), while the plastic model could come in at a slightly more wallet-friendly price of 650 Euros ($887 USD).
Overall there's nothing terribly surprising to be found in this leaked Galaxy S5 spec list. We began hearing about new Android phones with 2560x1440 displays toward the end of 2013, and I'm sure that Samsung wants to pack as many bleeding edge goodies as possible into the next version of its flagship phone, and so it's certainly possible that the S5 could feature a super high-res screen. A beefed up rear camera and processor also make sense. Of course, there's currently no hard evidence to back up this purported spec list, so it's probably a good idea to take today's report with a grain or two of your favorite salt.
In addition to providing a list of alleged Galaxy S5 specs, today's leak claims that Samsung is also prepping successors to the Galaxy S4 zoom and Galaxy S4 mini. Expected to debut in May and June, respectively, both models will reportedly feature Super AMOLED displays and Android 4.4 KitKat. The screen on the Galaxy S5 zoom will reportedly measure 4.8 inches and have a qHD resolution, which would be a size upgrade from the Galaxy S4 zoom's 4.3-inch qHD panel.
