After teasing its Revolution phone that can run either Android or the Boot to Gecko software behind Firefox OS back on Thanksgiving, Geeksphone today spilled some of the spec details of its unique device, and it looks like the ability to run two mobile OSes isn't the only feature that'll make it stand out.
The Spanish company says that its Revolution will feature a 4.7-inch 960x540 IPS touchscreen on its face and a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor at its core. Despite Intel's best efforts, we haven't seen a ton of smartphones or tablets come to market with its mobile processors, so I'm sure that the company is happy to be a part of Geeksphone's Revolution. Some of the other Intel-powered hardware that's come to market in the past include the Motorola RAZR i and Dell's Venue 7 and Venue 8 tablets.
In addition to its 4.5-inch display and Intel-crafted heart, the Geeksphone Revolution will come to market with an "HD-capable" 8-megapixel camera with flash and a 2000mAh battery. Of course, the tentpole feature of the Revolution is its ability to run either Android or "a Mozilla technology-based" OS (like the Boot to Gecko software that powers Firefox OS), and Geeksphone says that users can change operating systems without voiding the device's warranty.
The Geeksphone Revolution is slated to launch in the first quarter of 2014, but so far there's no word on how much the OS-swapping smartphone will cost when it arrives. The phone is the highest-end handset that Geeksphone has crafted to date, and while it remains to be seen exactly how well it'll perform, the fact that the Revolution can switch OSes is sure to garner it some attention when it hits shelves next year. Here's to hoping that we can get our hands on it to see just how the OS changing works and how the phone handles both platforms.
