If you're reading this article, I feel like it's a safe assumption to say that you have at least somewhat of an interest in mobile technology. Either that, or you're very, very bored. Perhaps a little bit of both? Regardless of the reason you're here, here at PhoneDog we like - well, love - to talk about all things mobile. I, for one, couldn't be happier to have landed a job like this one.

Given that today is Thanksgiving here in the good ol' U.S. of A., I naturally began thinking about all of the things that I am thankful for. Of course there's the norm like family, friends, food, life, etc., but that's not anything that any of you came here to read about. Instead, I'm going to elaborate on why I'm thankful for having a passion for mobile tech, and for being as fortunate as we are to be in a time where we get to experience this ever-changing, always improving technology. Usually, this story is going to start at the very beginning.

In a few of my articles I have discussed what initially sparked my interest in mobile tech, or more specifically, cell phones. To make a long story short, I saw my older brother with a basic Virgin Mobile phone; the main selling feature was a flashlight on the back of the device. Compare that to something like Air Gesture or fingerprint sensors! Naturally, like any good younger sibling, I only strived to be like him. The more he used his cell phone, the more I began to understand that this was something that I would want later in life. He talked on it, he typed on it, and it seemed like every time he used it he was able to make plans of one sort or another with his friends. This strange communication device was something I definitely wanted to have in my life.

So I made it my own personal goal to make it happen, and in a move that I now thank both of my parents for making, I went out and got a job at 14 to pay for my own phone because they wouldn't pay for one for me. 

So that's what started me on cell phones. Not only just trying to mimic my older brother, but also having the motive to go out and really earn something that I wanted for the first time in my life. Over the next several years I would spend my time looking up phones, reading reviews, comparing plans and eventually watching endless reviews and unboxings on that cool new YouTube website. My passion for phones never ceased, and finally one day back in 2011 I was convinced that I landed my dream job working at Sprint.

But as it turns out, having a passion for cell phones and learning the ins and outs of them doesn't necessarily make you the greatest person to sell them. I enjoyed my time with Sprint, but along with teaching me more about the ins and outs of parts of the industry and more aspects about cell phones in general, it also taught me that I'm horrible at pitching a sale. No big deal, we can't all be good at everything. But I did find that once I was searching for a new job, I found myself looking at jobs in the mobile industry once again. My passion for mobile tech hadn't diminished. I still spent good portions of my days following news and reviews, just as I had before. That's one of the great things about this industry. It changes so fast and so often that there's hardly ever nothing new to read about. 

And that's when it dawned on me that I mostly liked reading up and talking about mobile tech rather than trying to pitch a sale. So, in the end, here I am. A large part of who I am and what I do is all thanks to some jealousy that started when I was much younger. It's kind of funny to look back and think about why things happen the way they do, but I wouldn't change any of it. I am very thankful to be here.
