Qualcomm recently announced that its Toq smartwatch would officially go on sale on Dec. 2, but it looks like anyone that really wants a Toq won't have to wait that long to guarantee themselves a unit. The Qualcomm Toq is now available for pre-order through Qualcomm's official Toq online store. As of this writing, only the black version is available, with the white model listed as "Coming Soon."
The Qualcomm Toq is priced at $349.99 and includes a WiPower LE wireless charger, AC adapter and USB cable. Qualcomm says that it expects orders to ship in 1-3 weeks and that it won't charge buyers' credit cards until the Toq units begin going out.
The Toq features a 1.55-inch touchscreen with Mirasol display technology that Qualcomm says is "clearly visible in direct sunlight" and also enables the unit's battery to last several days between charges. It uses Bluetooth to connect to Android smartphones running version 4.0.3 or higher and, once paired, can display alerts for things like calls and text messages.
Qualcomm's Toq looks like an interesting entrant into the smartwatch arena because of its Mirasol display tech and the claim that it can go days without needing a charge. The unit's $349 price tag will be hard for many to swallow, but Qualcomm has said that it's not aiming for mass market success with the Toq. Instead, the company has described it as a "limited edition smartwatch" that's meant to be an example of what can be created using Mirasol displays and WiPower LE wireless charging. If you're undeterred by the Toq's $349 price tag and are A-OK with black, you can pre-order a unit of your very own by hitting up the Qualcomm link below.
