Consumers looking to get in on the quickly-growing smartwatch trend will soon have another device to choose from, because Qualcomm announced this morning that its Toq smartwatch will be available starting on Monday, Dec. 2, for $349.99. The Qualcomm Toq is compatible with Android devices running version 4.0.3 or higher and features a Mirasol display that is said to provide "multiple days of battery life" as well as Qualcomm's WiPower LE wireless charging tech.
Once connected to an Android handset over Bluetooth, the Qualcomm Toq is capable of accepting and declining calls, viewing text messages and receiving other alerts. The Toq also features stock and weather apps with information from Accuweather and E-Trade. Qualcomm says that it plans on adding more features to its smartwatch through future software updates.
While we'll have to wait until spending some wrists-on time with the Toq before making any judgments about it, the Qualcomm-made watch looks like an interesting entry into the smartwatch arena. It's got a nice, clean design, and the promise of multiple days of battery life addresses one of the major complaints that many people have about existing smartwatch hardware. Qualcomm describes the Toq as a "limited edition smartwatch," so if it looks like something that you'd like to make space on your wrist for, you may want to have your $350 ready and your browser pointed toward toq.qualcomm.com once Dec. 2 rolls around.
