The Windows Phone kerfuffle going on between Google and Microsoft is pretty well-known by now. The two companies have gone back and forth on things like Google Maps for mobile IE, Google Sync support and the official Windows Phone YouTube app, which recently regressed back to a basic web app. Today I've got some good news regarding Google and Windows Phone, though, as the search company has released a big update to its official Google Search app for Windows Phone.
The update brings the Google Search app for Windows Phone up to version 2.0.295.80 and voice commands that show up instantly in Windows Phone 8, improved Google image viewing and "several other bug fixes and resolution enhancements." Also included is an updated look and Google logo that brings the app more in line with the company's recent design direction.
While this updated Google Search app for Windows Phone may not seem like a big deal to users of other mobile platforms, the aforementioned hubbub between Google and Microsoft along with the fact that the app hadn't received a major update in some time means that this new version is worth getting excited about. Here's to hoping that this app update is just the start of a stream of good news and app updates for Google products on Windows Phone.
