Wearable tech is a product category that's been growing at a rapid pace lately. Not only is just about every manufacturer in mobile either already selling a smartwatch or rumored to be working on one, but fitness trackers are becoming all the rage and Google also has its Glass eyewear that members of the Glass Explorers program have been testing for months. Samsung is one of the many companies already a part of the wearable tech game thanks to the Galaxy Gear, but a new patent filing suggests that the South Korean firm may want to dive even deeper.

A design patent registered with the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service shows that Samsung is at least considering making a pair of what it describes as "sports glasses." The sketches included with the filing show a device that looks fairly similar to a regular pair of sports sunglasses, but according to Samsung's description, the headgear includes some earphones for listening to music and taking calls. The filing also mentions that the glasses could link up to a smartphone and display information, and it looks like there may be a camera on the unit as well.

Right now these sports glasses are likely a product idea that Samsung has kicking around in its labs. There's no guarantee that we'll ever see Galaxy Glasses on store shelves, and even if we do, the final product could look quite a bit different than the one in these sketches. For example, I'm sure that that cable dangling off of the device's backside would be cut. It's still cool to get a peek at one of the concepts that Samsung's cooked up for some new wearable tech, though, and it'll be interesting to see how the final product compares to these sketches if Samsung does indeed end up releasing its "sports glasses" into the market.
