After debuting earlier in 2013 and then making their way onto shelves in various other countries around the globe, the ZTE Grand S and nubia 5 finally arrived in the U.S. this month. Both devices are now available from Amazon, and as part of their stateside launch, ZTE has introduced a new extended protection plan for new owners. Rather than make customers pay an upfront or monthly fee for its protection plan, ZTE is offering its protection plan for a deductible of $79.99 during 18-month period following the device's purchase date.
ZTE's extended warranty plan covers out-of-warranty incidents, such was liquid damage or a cracked display. Multiple claims are allowed, and ZTE notes that its extended protection plan is available on top of its standard 12-month warranty that covers manufacturer defects.
The Grand S and nubia 5 are fairly affordable devices compared to the full retail price of some other smartphones, but that doesn't mean that owners would be thrilled about paying full price again to replace a broken unit. That's why it's nice to see ZTE extending a protection plan to buyers of its two handsets. I'm sure that many consumers will also be happy to hear that enrollment doesn't require any one-time or monthly payments like most other insurance plans.
