After appearing in photos a week ago, an iPad 5 shell in the same space gray color as the iPhone 5s has now been shown off on video. The clip, posted to YouTube by Unbox Therapy, shows what's said to be an iPad 5 shell with a dark gray backside and black front panel. The unit also features the same rounded edges and iPad mini-like design as previous iPad 5 leaks.
Apple's upcoming iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 have been leaked several times at this point, with several sets of photos and videos showcasing the shells of the unannounced products ahead of their official debut. As I always say, nothing is official until Tim Cook and Co. say it is, but at this point it seems likely that both of Apple's new iPad models will be made available in the same silver and space gray options as the new iPhone 5s. A recent image leak suggested that a gold iPad mini could also be in the works, but there's been less evidence to support those claims so far.
As for when we might see these new iPad models introduced, the rumor mill has suggested that an October event for the refreshed slates could in the cards. Not only would that space out Apple's iPhone and iPad announcements, but it would also follow a one-year refresh cycle nicely and give Apple time to get its new tablets out in front of customers before the holiday shopping season. You can check out the video of the space gray iPad 5 shell being compared to its silver counterpart below while we wait for the iPad event invitations to flow from Apple to email inboxes.
