Today was supposed to be the day that the BBM for Android and iOS apps were finally released to the world, but now it looks like most of us will have to wait just a little bit longer.
BlackBerry has announced that it's pausing the global rollout of BBM for Android and iOS as a result of issues caused by an unreleased version of BBM for Android that leaked online. The company says that it's been working to address the problems caused by the unreleased app and that it will begin a staggered rollout of BBM for Android and and restart the BBM for iOS rollout "as soon as [its] able." In the mean time, BlackBerry plans to disable the unreleased BBM for Android app, but anyone that's already downloaded the official BBM for iOS app will still be able to use it.
This news is definitely a bummer for BlackBerry, which has already been having a bit of a rough go lately, as well as all of the Android and iOS folk that've been waiting since mid-May to give the official BBM apps a go. BlackBerry does note that it's added 1.1 million active BBM users without launching the official Android app, though, so at least there's a little bit of good news for the company to enjoy while it's hard at work trying to correct the issues caused by the unreleased Android app.
