We've seen bits and pieces of the Intel and Samsung-backed Tizen OS on a few occasions this year, getting peeks at the work-in-progress platform as it gets ready for a proper public launch. Today we're getting another early look at Tizen, but this time the software being previewed is a new, more refined version of the OS running on a Samsung Galaxy S 4.
A handful of photos showing what's said to be Tizen 3.0 have been shared by Tizen Indonesia, and the while there are only a few images for us to gawk at, this new-look Tizen appears to have undergone a bit of a makeover from the version 2.0 product that we saw previously. The OS is still fairly colorful, but it's now got a much flatter design.
The Tizen 3.0 lock screen shows the time, charging percentage and alerts toward the bottom of the display, and we can also see what appears to be larger notifications that can be pulled down from the top of the screen. Meanwhile, the dialer's got large buttons that include Send and Back keys as well as what looks to be a Messaging button. We can also see that the Tizen status bar has been altered from previous models and now looks much more similar to the other OSes currently on the market, complete with a set of signal bars and a battery to indicate the device's remaining charge.
Obviously there's still quite a bit of Tizen 3.0 that these images don't show, but what is included in the shots looks nice. Flat design has been permeating the mobile world lately, with platforms like Windows Phone and iOS 7 each sporting flattened looks that aren't terribly unlike what we're seeing from Intel and Samsung in today's images. Unfortunately, it's still not clear when Samsung will actually push out some Tizen-powered hardware to the public. Good thing that we've got photos like these to keep us occupied until more details surface.
