One fairly common occurrence in the smartphone world is the price drop. However, what's not so common is how quickly that price cut can occur, as there are several different factors that can play a role in a product's cost to consumers. It can be tough to figure out exactly when a new phone's price will be reduced, but today a new report may have given us an idea of when we'll see Motorola's new Moto X have its price slashed.

According to a tweet from @evleaks, the Moto X's price will drop to $100 on contract during the fourth quarter. No other details on the cut were given, so it's not clear exactly when in Q4 we'll see the Moto X sporting a new price tag. One tidbit that was included was a hint at the pricing and availability of the Moto X's custom wooden backs, though, with @evleaks claiming that the add-on will arrive in Q4 at a price of $50, just as a previous leak suggested.

The 16GB Moto X is currently available from AT&T and Verizon for $199.99 with a two-year commitment, so a price cut to $100 would be pretty significant. As I mentioned before, the news isn't a huge shock since most smartphones experience a price cut during their life on the shelf, but at least now we've got an idea of how much the Moto X's cost will be reduced and when that drop will come.
