Aio Wireless may have recently become the target of a lawsuit, but apparently the prepaid operator isn't letting that get in the way of sharing some big news. Aio announced today that it will be launching nationwide in mid-September, allowing any U.S. customer to sign up for the service online. No specific date was given, but Aio did say that anyone that activates service either in stores or online by Sept. 29 will receive their third month of service for free.
Since its launch in early May, AT&T subsidiary Aio Wireless has added 4G LTE service to its offerings and slowly been spreading to new markets across the country. The prepaid provider offers plans that start out at $40 with unlimited talk, text and data (250MB high-speed data) for basic phones. Smartphone owners can choose from $55 or $70 per month unlimited plans that include 2GB and 7GB of high-speed data, respectively. An additional gigabyte of high-speed data can be added at any time at a rate of $10.
Aio has only been available in markets like Houston, Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville to date, so it's good to see that it'll soon be taking its prepaid offerings nationwide. As I mentioned before, Aio runs on AT&T's network, meaning that customers that sign up for the service will be able to take advantage of the big blue carrier's growing LTE footprint. Combined with its free month of service promotion, it looks like Aio may be worth checking out for consumers that are in the hunt for a new prepaid wireless provider.
