We're now less than two weeks out from Sept. 4 and Sony's expected announcement of the 20-megapixel camera-packin' Honami. That may seem like forever for folks that are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the next high-end Xperia handset, but today some new images of the Honami have surfaced that ought to help whet those appetites.

Posted to Chinese forum Digi-Wo, a new image claims to show the Sony Honami in black, white and purple, the same three colors that Sony painted onto the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra. The models in this photo look fairly similar to the previous leaks, packing a G Lens-branded rear camera, circular power button and NFC, Sony and Xperia tattoos on its backside. 

Along with this leaked render, Sony itself has begun posted teaser images for what is likely the Honami. On its official @SonyXperia account, the company has shared a close-up photo of a circular power button with the caption "It’s the smartphone everyone’s been talking about... not long now #bestofSony," followed by an image of a phone getting drenched with water and the tagline "About to make a splash... #bestofSony." These shots suggest that the Honami will sport a power button and will be waterproof, both of which would be unsurprising since they're features that are present on other Sony hardware (again, Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra) and because, well, a power button is a usually a nice feature to include.

Sony's Honami is expected to be the company's next flagship Android smartphone and the latest in a recent string of camera-focused handsets. The Honami will reportedly pack a 20-megapixel camera, complete with an Exmor RS sensor and Sony's BIONZ image processing tech. Also expected to be included is a 5-inch 1080p display and quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor.

All in all it sounds like Sony's got a respectable device on its hands, but we'll have to wait until we can put the Honami's camera to the test before making any final judgments. Here's to hoping that, with so many other hotly-anticipated smartphones due out soon, Sony is able to get the Honami on shelves in a timely manner so that it and its crazy shooter don't get lost in the shuffle.
