Yesterday Google officially introduced Android 4.3, the latest version of its mobile operating system. That means that it's now time for device makers to begin chiming in with their plans for this new flavor of Jelly Bean, and Sony is the latest company to do so.
Sony today took to its official blog to announce that it's planning to upgrade several of its Xperia smartphones to Android 4.3. That list includes the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra. There's no word on when those updates might begin rolling out, but Sony does say that it's considering skipping Android 4.2 on some of its devices and bumping them from Android 4.1 to 4.3.
Two devices that are still slated to receive Android 4.2 updates are the Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z. Those models are expected to begin receiving the Android 4.2 update in early August. Meanwhile, the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL are in the process of being updated to 4.2 right now, so owners that haven't yet received an update should continue to keep an eye out for one.
Even though it's not yet clear when the first Xperia models will receive a taste of Google's latest software, I'm sure that owners of devices like the Xperia Z/ZL, Xperia SP and Xperia Tablet Z are glad to hear that they'll eventually be bumped up to Android 4.3. The new version of Jelly Bean includes features like Bluetooth Smart device support, restricted profiles on tablets and general optimizations to make Google's little green robot faster than it was before.
