After launching a pair of of developer-centric Firefox OS phones earlier this year, Geeksphone today took the wraps off of its first Firefox product focused on consumers. Dubbed the "Peak+," the device is a beefed up version of the Peak developer handset that Geeksphone began selling back in April. The Peak+ is now available for pre-order for €149 ($196 USD) and is expected to ship in mid-September.

In exchange for their hard-earned euros, buyers will receive a beefed up version of the original Peak Firefox OS smartphone that features 1GB RAM, double that of the first model. The remainder of the Peak+'s spec sheet is similar its predecessor's, meaning that it's got a 4.3-inch 960x540 IPS touchscreen, 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 4GB of internal storage that can be supplemented with a microSD card and a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 8225 processor. The Peak+ is powered by an 1,800mAh battery and features quad-band EDGE and 850/1900/2100 HSPA connectivity.

While the Peak+ isn't the first Firefox OS phone to be targeted at end users, it is considerably higher-end than the two models that were unveiled earlier this year. The Peak+ is still fairly affordable, though, coming in at a shade under $200. That's not a bad deal for a new smartphone, and considering that the other currently-available Firefox OS phone is being sold in Spain, the Peak+ looks like the go-to option for folks looking to give the 'Fox a go. Geeksphone says that it's got a "limited pre-order day one batch" of Peak+ units to sell, so anyone interested in a unit ought to hit up the link below and get to clicking that blue pre-order button.

"Today, Geeksphone announced the pre-sale of a new device based on Boot to Gecko technology. We want to clarify that this new phone that was announced is based on Boot to Gecko technology with pre-release software, but is not a certified or supported Firefox OS device."
