After the Samsung Galaxy Note II launched with Android 4.1 late last year, many owners of the S Pen-equipped device are likely wondering where their update to Android 4.2 is. Samsung hasn't said much of anything on the matter, but according to Australian carrier Telstra, the 4.2 update won't be coming.
Don't get upset, Note II owners! This doesn't mean that your beloved phone/tablet hybrid is getting abandoned. In a new "Handset updates" post in its official forums, Telstra claims that Samsung has "elected globally to skip the 4.2.2 update" for the Note II, opting instead to jump to "a newer version of Android." That means that Samsung may be planning to bump the Note II from Android 4.1 to Android 4.3. Telstra goes on to say that Samsung hasn't revealed when this update to "a newer version of Android" might arrive.
Considering that Android 4.3 is expected to be a fairly minor update to Jelly Bean and that its official introduction is likely very close, I wouldn't be surprised to see Samsung decide to skip Android 4.2 for the Note II and jump straight to 4.3. Doing so would allow Samsung to avoid having to prepare updates for both Android 4.2 and 4.3 and instead move the Note II straight to the latest version of Android. If today's report does hold true, hopefully Samsung is able to get the Note II's 4.3 update out in a timely manner, because users have been on 4.1 for quite a while and are probably itching for some new goodies to play with.
