There have been several rumblings of an Apple "iWatch" smartwatch in recent months, but we may have just gotten one of the biggest hints that such a product is indeed in the works in Cupertino. Bloomberg reports that Apple has filed for the trademark to the name "iWatch" in Japan. The application was sent in on June 3, seeking protection for the "iWatch" name that will cover products such as handheld computers or a watch-style product.

Details on Apple's watch are still up in the air since, you know, the thing hasn't actually been announced. Some of the rumors surrounding the wristwear have suggested that it will run iOS and will carry out some of the actions handled by an iPhone. There's no word yet on when the "iWatch" might actually make its debut, but with Apple's recent trademark filing, it's definitely starting to look like the company is planning to enter the ever-growing smartwatch market.
