Intel has been working hard lately to make a name for itself in the mobile world, but so far we haven't really seen a high-profile device come to market bearing an "Intel Inside" stamp. That could change very soon, though, as a Reuters source claims that Samsung has chosen to use an Intel processor to power its upcoming Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 tablet.
According to the report, at least one version of the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 will feature Intel's Clover Trail+ chip when it comes to market. There's no mention of why Samsung chose an Intel chip for the Tab 3 10.1 or what the rest of the tablet's spec list will include (though 10.1-inch display seems likely, given the product's name and all). It's also unclear when Samsung might announce this Intel-powered slate, but the company does have an event scheduled for June 20 at which it will introduce at least one new Galaxy-branded device, so that's certainly a possibility.
If today's rumor holds true, it could be a pretty big deal for Intel and its efforts to invade the mobile space. Samsung's Galaxy Tab line is one of the better-known family of Android tablets, and so a Clover Trail+-powered Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 could help to quickly increase the number of people with an Intel-powered mobile device, giving Intel a better shot at gaining a foothold in this market.
