The newly-announced Google Edition HTC One may be the device that many folks have been dreaming of, but for consumers that don't mind HTC's Sense overlay, the Taiwanese manufacturer may have something even better on the way. According to a report from @evleaks on The Unlockr, HTC is prepping a phone/tablet hybrid (aka phablet) device codenamed the "T6" that's allegedly on track for a debut in the late summer or early fall. The T6 is said to look similar to the HTC One, including the front-facing BoomSound speakers and UltraPixel camera.
Since it's being categorized as a phablet-style device, it should come as no surprise that the T6 is expected to come with a large display. Today's report claims that the device will sport a 5.9-inch 1080p screen, making it larger than recent devices like the Optimus G Pro and Galaxy Note II. Also said to be included with the T6 is a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, Ultrapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, 2.1-megapixel front camera, 2GB RAM, 16GB built-in storage, microSD slot (something we don't see terribly often from HTC) and a 3,300mAh battery powering the whole package. HTC is reportedly prepping a battery pack case for the T6 that'll provide an additional 1,250mAh of power.
On the software side of things, we're told to expect HTC's Sense overlay to be featured on the T6. Interestingly, today's report also claims that the T6 will feature Key Lime Pie, which is rumored to be the next major version of Google's Android OS. @evleaks points out that this is one of the stranger aspects of today's rumor, as most people have expected that KLP won't be launching until closer to the end of the year. Since nothing has been announced by Google or HTC, we'll just have to wait and see how the KLP and T6 situations play out.
Getting back to the T6, today's report claims that HTC may have a couple of special tricks up its sleeve for the upcoming device. The company is reportedly planning to include a stylus with "an ultra-thin tip" that will be well-suited for content creation. Also said to be packed into the T6 is a fingerprint reader that will be mounted on the device's rear, allowing users to unlock the phone by applying the same grip that would normally be used to interact with it.
As I mentioned before, all of the information in today's report is unconfirmed, so it might not be a bad idea to take it with a grain or two of salt. It's certainly possible that HTC could be prepping a phone/tablet hybrid device, though, as the popularity of those products continue to grow and the competition keeps churning out more (and larger) hardware. While HTC hasn't been doing terribly well in terms of its financials as of late, the One appears to be doing well for the company, and so HTC might see a One-like phablet as another way to make a comeback.
