Following Galaxy S 4 updates from AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, it appears that U.S. Cellular may soon begin rolling out some piping hot software for its own version of Samsung's new handset. An internal document posted by Droid-Life shows that U.S. Cellular will begin pushing an update to baseband version "R970VXUAMDL" to its Galaxy S 4 this month. Included is an upgraded version of Samsung's S Health app, just like the updates from the other carriers included, as well as a SIM lock and a few other tweaks. This update appears to be quite a bit beefier than the ones that have been hitting the other U.S. carrier-branded versions of the Galaxy S 4. There are some nice tweaks inside this update, including improved audio quality when recording video and voice as well as a fix for Microsoft Exchange email, though some users may be disappointed about the SIM lock that's also packed in. It's also worth noting that, yes, this doc does contain what's likely a typo that lists the Galaxy S 4 as being on Android 4.1.2 when it actually runs Android 4.2.2.
It's said that this update is slated to begin rolling out to U.S. Cellular Galaxy S 4 owners around May 10, which would make sense considering that the AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile updates have all arrived in the past week or so with some similar improvements.
