New Android smartphones with physical QWERTY keyboards are becoming an increasingly rare sight, but it looks like we could see one pop up on AT&T in the near future. Twitter user @evleaks has posted images of a device referred to as the "NEC Terrain" that features a portrait hardware keyboard with an AT&T globe logo above it. Looking the device's screen, we can see the vanilla Android 4.x launcher, a set of on-screen navigation buttons and what seems to be AT&T's "4G LTE" logo in the status bar.

There aren't any spec details accompanying this leak, so we'll have to wait for another day for the full spec rundown on the NEC Terrain. Just by looking at these shots of the device, though, the phone appears to have got front and rear cameras, LTE connectivity and that QWERTY 'board bolted on. There also seems to be a plastic or rubber border going around the outside edge of the phone, which when paired with a name like "Terrain," suggests that we're looking at a ruggedized smartphone.

NEC may not be a name that we see much in the U.S. mobile market, but the company has introduced its share of Android-powered products in the past. It showed off a handful of new hardware at MWC earlier this year, including 7.9 and 10.1-inch tablets, a quad-core Android handset with a 4.7-inch organic HD EL display and a smartphone with two screens that can combine to form one 5.6-inch display. This NEC Terrain may not have two screens, but its hardware keyboard is a feature that's almost as rare, and so any AT&T customers that are still addicted to physical buttons may want to give this thing a look once it launches.
