Qualcomm first took the wraps off of its new Snapdragon 600 and Snapdragon 800 processors earlier this year, but while we're already starting to see the 600 appear in phones on shelves, there hasn't been much said about the 800 since January. That's changed today, as Qualcomm Senior Product Manager Yufei Wang has confirmed to Engadget that the Snapdragon 800 will hit mass production in late May. The exec didn't spill any other details about the Snapdragon 800 or which devices it'll appear in first.

Both the Snapdragon 600 and Snapdragon 800 are quad-core chips, but Qualcomm says that the 800 got some shiny new Krait 400 CPU cores that can hit a clock speed of 2.3GHz. There's also an Adreno 330 GPU onboard, which is a slight bump above the Adreno 320 unit found in older chips. According to Qualcomm, all of the Snapdragon 800's features come together to offer 75 percent improved performance of the old Snapdragon S4 Pro chip. It sounds like a pretty beefy little chipset, and I'm sure that there will be many a spec hound throwing their cash, credit cards and whatever other forms of currency that are in their wallets once we start seeing the Snapdragon 800 appear in consumer hardware.
