Google and its executives are known for providing frequent updates on the number of Android devices that are activated on a daily basis, and today we got our latest stat from Google chairman Eric Schmidt. Speaking at the D: Dive Into Mobile conference, Schmidt revealed that there are now 1.5 million Android products activated every day, which is up from the 1.3 million daily activations that Google reported late last year. According to Engadget, Schmidt also said that he expects the total number of activated Android devices to hit 1 billion before the end of 2013. Google CEO Larry Page said last month that the total number of Android products activated was over 750 million.
Android first launched here in the U.S. in late 2008 with the HTC-made G1 on T-Mobile. Since then, we've seen several different versions of Google's green robot hit the market with new looks, new features and new hardware. Android recently underwent a bit of a big change as Andy Rubin, who helped found Android Inc. before it was acquired by Google, stepped down from his post as head of Android. Rubin was replaced by Chrome and Apps SVP Sundar Pichai, and while it's not yet known what improvements Android might see as a result of Pichai's lead, it'll certainly be interesting to see what 2013 holds for the platform.
