Upcoming Nokia Lumia 'double tap to wake' feature shown off as new AT&T Lumia 920 update is announced

Last month, a rumor claimed that Nokia is prepping an update for its Windows Phone 8 Lumia models that'll include new features like a flip-to-silence functionality and the ability to double tap a phone's screen to wake it from sleep. There's been no official word from Nokia on this update since then, but today a new video has surfaced that shows the "double tap to wake" feature in action.

Posted by WPCentral, the clip shows a Lumia 920 with a new optional lock screen clock that is also said to be included in this forthcoming update. A user can then tap twice on the phone's screen to wake it from sleep and bring up the lock screen. The video of the double tap to wake feature is available at the bottom of this post.

This new update is reportedly being dubbed "PR2.0" by Nokia. Along with the double tap to wake and on-screen clock features, WPCentral claims that the PR2.0 update will also bring a new "Smart Camera" Lens along with some other unnamed goodies. While there doesn't appear to be are any earth-shattering new features coming in PR2.0, it sounds like a nice little update that'll make using the eligible Lumia models a better experience. For example, the double tap to wake feature (which is something that we originally saw on Nokia's MeeGo-powered N9) could allow Lumia owners to get into their handsets a bit quicker than they would by pressing the lock button that's located on the side of the devices.

In other Lumia news, Nokia just announced that a new AT&T Lumia 920 update is now available. The update is SW 1232.5962.1314.0001 and it sports a changelog that's similar to the 1308 update that began rolling out in late March. However, this new update also includes "improvements for connectivity issues in certain network conditions," which is likely in response to the connectivity woes that affected some AT&T Lumia 920 owners after they installed the aforementioned 1308 update. In order to check for the update, AT&T Lumia 920 owners can grab their handset and then head into Settings > Phone Update > Check for Updates.
