There's some bad news for anyone that's interested in getting their Excel on using a piece of iOS or Android hardware, as a new rumor claims that Microsoft's versions of Office for both platforms may not be arriving until late 2014. According to a Microsoft Office update roadmap obtained by Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet, Office for iOS and Android are currently slated to arrive in October 2014. The source of the roadmap claims that the document is current as of the start of 2013. Additionally, the roadmap teases a Windows Phone Office refresh that's expected to hit in April 2014, a full six months before iOS and Android would get access to Microsoft's Office software.

Microsoft has never come straight out an announced that it's developing versions of Office for iOS and Android, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from churning out claims that such software is indeed in the works in Redmond. The most recent reports claimed that the iOS and Android flavors of Office would be arriving in early to mid-2013. However, if this newly-leaked roadmap is to be believed, Microsoft has opted to push back that software in favor of updates for Windows Blue and Office for Mac as well as product refreshes for Office RT and Windows Phone.

Obviously nothing is official until Microsoft says it is, but if today's rumor ends up holding true, it looks like it'll be a while before iOS and Android users are Excel-ing and PowerPoint-ing while on the go. For now it seems like a good idea for any Office fans on those two platforms to prepare for a long wait and perhaps begin looking into some other software to fill their mobile document editing needs.
