T-Mobile won't be unveiling its full first quarter 2013 financial results until May 8, but the magenta carrier is apparently so pleased with its figures that it's decided to share some preliminary stats a month early. T-Mobile reports that it added a total of 579,000 customers in the first three months of 2012, bringing its subscriber base up to 34 million. Looking at the figures specifically from its own branded postpaid and prepaid services, T-Mobile says that it lost 199,000 postpaid customers and gained 202,000 prepaid users, giving it a total branded growth of 3,000 subscribers. That figure may not sound like much, but it's actually quite an improvement from the 349,000 branded customers that T-Mobile lost in Q4 2012.
So far it's looking like T-Mobile's first quarter 2013 results will be good for the company. CEO John Legere says that these preliminary numbers show that T-Mobile is achieving "positive momentum" as well as its first positive branded growth in the past four years. Now T-Mobile is hoping that it can keep this growth going with its recent introduction of subsidy-free Simple Choice Plans and 4G LTE network, as well as with the upcoming launch of the iPhone. We'll have to wait a bit to see just how these actions will affect T-Mobile's numbers, but for now at least, it looks like Big Magenta's Q1 2013 numbers give it a reason to go ahead and do a little celebration dance.
