Sprint revealed earlier in 2013 that it plans to finally launch its first Windows Phone 8 smartphones "by summer," but besides revealing that the two phones will be "current models" from HTC and Samsung, the folks from the Now Network haven't said much about which handsets they intend to offer. Today a new report has surfaced that claims to fill in the holes of Sprint's announcements with details on the two Windows Phone 8 models that Hesse and Co. will sell.
Sources speaking to The Verge claim that Sprint will launch both the Samsung ATIV S and HTC "Tiara" in May or June of 2013. The international version of the ATIV S was announced in 2012 with a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 8-megapixel rear camera. Sprint's flavor of the ATIV S will reportedly differ a bit from the global model on the outside, but the specs of the device are expected to remain similar. Meanwhile, the HTC Tiara is a device that leaked out earlier this year. The Tiara is rumored to include a 4.3-inch WVGA display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 8-megapixel camera.
We'll have to wait until Sprint announces its Windows Phone 8 launch plans before we know for sure which devices it'll sell, but the ATIV S and Tiara would be two nice additions to its lineup. The ATIV S actually hasn't yet launched on a U.S. carrier, so if this rumor holds true, Sprint will be able to claim the title of being the first major U.S. operator to sell it. In terms of specs, the ATIV S looks like it would occupy the high-end spot in Sprint's Windows Phone lineup, while the Tiara will fill in the mid-range.
