Just a few weeks after the Sony Xperia ZL first made an appearance in Sony's U.S. online store, the company has announced that its new handset is now available for pre-order. As it did with several of its other recent smartphones, Sony is offering the Xperia ZL to U.S. customers in unlocked form, with two different versions of the device being made available for purchase. The base model (C6502) features HSPA+ 850/900/1700/1900/2100MHz connectivity and a $719.99 price tag. Sony is also offering a 4G LTE-enabled variant (C6506) for $759.99 that supports LTE bands 2, 4, 5 and 17, meaning that it should play nicely with AT&T and T-Mobile here in the U.S.
Along with its HSPA+ and LTE connectivity, the Sony Xperia ZL touts a 5-inch 1080p display, 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 13-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, microSD card slot and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. There's been no word yet on any sort of official U.S. carrier launch for either the Xperia Z or Xperia ZL, so for now it looks like this is the only way for anyone interested in Sony's latest flagships to actually get one here in the States. Sony is offering the Xperia ZL in black, red or white, and orders are expected to ship on April 8.
