Microsoft first began rolling out its Windows Phone 7.8 update to devices back in January 2013, but after discovering an issue earlier this month that would cause Live Tiles to stop updating as they should, the Redmond firm put a stop to the new software's rollout. It looks like Microsoft has now gotten everything ironed out, though, as it has confirmed to The Verge that Windows Phone 7.8 is going out over the air once again.
The Windows Phone 7.8 update that's going out now is actually a newer build than the one that was previously released, with the old update being build number 8858 and the new one being 8860. That's a result of the patch that's included with the new update that will fix the aforementioned Live Tile bug. The update is going out through Microsoft's Zune computer software, but according to WPCentral and its commenters, it looks like its mostly international models that are currently receiving the update.
The Live Tile bug in the original Windows Phone 7.8 update was definitely a bit of a pain for users that installed the new software, especially considering that Live Tiles are one of the main features of the Windows Phone platform. Thankfully, Microsoft squashed the bug and has begun rolling out an updated version of Windows Phone 7.8 to its users. Here's to hoping that it's not long before owners of U.S. carrier-branded hardware can get a piece of the new software action as well.
