Apparently today is the day of Jelly Bean updates. Following the One X and DROID RAZR's bumps up to Android 4.1, Sprint has announced that it's version of the LG Optimus G will be updated to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean starting today, March 7. Included in the update are Jelly Bean features like Google Now and expandable notifications as well as a few other enhancements, such as improvements to the Optimus G's voice search and camera app. The update will also replace the stock browser with Google Chrome. The full Sprint changelog for the Optimus G's Jelly Bean update is as follows:

• QuickTranslator application downloadable from the Application Manager

• Ability to turn off notifications on an app specific basis
• Shortcuts and widgets can automatically be re-arranged or re-sized to allow new items to fit on home screens
• Bluetooth data transfer for Android Beam
• Improved voice search
• Improved camera app
• Android mobile version of Google Chrome replaces stock Android browser
• Ability for other launchers to add widgets from the app drawer without requiring root access

The Optimus G is currently LG's flagship phone for the U.S. market, so it's good to see the device getting upgraded to a more recent version of Android. Not only does the update bring a basketful of new features, but the inclusion of Project Butter in Jelly Bean, app improvements and a preinstalled version of the Chrome browser ought to make using the Optimus G a better experience. Sprint says that this update is rolling out in phases and should reach all users in 10 days. If you're hungry for some jelly beans now, though, you can grab your Optimus G and click your way into the phone's Settings menu and hit Update Firmware to see if the new software is waiting for you.
