There's been a bit of a quarrel growing between AT&T and T-Mobile in recent months that all started in January when T-Mobile CEO John Legere called AT&T's network in New York City "crap." AT&T responded last week with a full-page newspaper ad that said that the "truth about T-Mobile's network" is that it has more dropped and failed calls as AT&T's, as well as slower download speeds.
Now T-Mobile has returned fire on AT&T with some new spots that serve as answers to the big blue carrier's newspaper ad. The three T-Mobile ads contain headlines like "If AT&T thought our network wasn't great, why did they try to buy it?" and "What keeps AT&T up at night? Apparently us." All of the spots go on to suggest that AT&T is worried about T-Mobile and remind the reader that AT&T tried to acquire T-Mobile in 2011. There's no word yet on when these ads might actually be released to the public, but TmoNews has heard that they've already been sent to T-Mobile for final approval and could start appearing in newspapers as early as today.
These latest ads show are quite a bit snarkier than the ones that T-Mobile has put out in the past, and they reflect the new, scrappier version of Magenta that's been showing itself in recent months. Along with these new ads, T-Mobile's 2013 makeover is set to bring a full-on switch to Value plans, the launch of an LTE network and the arrival of Apple products on the carrier. While these ads may not have quite the same effect on T-Mobile as the launch of Apple hardware or LTE coverage, they definitely show that the magenta operator is a bit feistier now, and that could help to earn attention from new customers and gather more support for its existing users. What do you all think of T-Mobile's new response ads?
