It looks like Twitter users have a new way to share what they're doing on the social networking service starting today. Twitter just used its official blog to introduce Vine, a service that allows users to capture and share brief, looping videos online. The clips that can be shared must be six seconds or less, which Twitter says "inspires creativity" in a way similar to tweets. The official Vine app is now available for both iPhone and iPod touch in the App Store. Twitter says that it's working to bring Vine to other unnamed platforms, but it didn't offer up a timeframe in which we might see more apps emerge.
The addition of support for embedded Vine videos in tweets is the latest feature that Twitter has introduced that gives users different ways to share their content. We saw the company make a similar move last month with the introduction of Instagram-like photo filters that are built into the official Twitter apps for iOS and Android. It's worth noting that users don't need a Twitter account to use Vine, but Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann says that the sign-up process for Vine goes quicker for existing Twitter users. An example of a tweet with a Vine video embedded into it is available below to give you an idea of what the clips look like. Does Vine look like a service that you might check out once it hits your platform of choice?
