CES 2013 kept on rolling again today, and this morning Pebble hosted a press event to share some information about its smartwatch that saw quite a bit of success on Kickstarter. Ever since Pebble reached its funding goal in the middle of last year, many folks have been wondering just when the smartwatch would start shipping out to backers. Today Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky announced that the watch will finally begin shipping out to Kickstarter backers on Jan. 23, with all backers expected to receive their units in six to eight weeks. Migicovsky also said that 15,000 Pebbles are being manufactured each week.
The Pebble smartwatch itself will have a battery life of around seven days and is water resistant. As far as device compatibility goes, Pebble will play nicely with Android devices running Android 2.3.3 and up as well as iOS 5.0 and up, including the iPhone 3GS and newer models.
Pebble is one of the most successful projects on Kickstarter to date, but the company has been fairly silent about a launch date since last year, causing some backers to start to get a bit frustrated with the whole situation. It's good to see Pebble finally commit to a roll out, and I'm sure that the backers are glad to hear that they'll start getting their watches in just a couple short weeks. So far the Pebble watch itself looks pretty nice, and hopefully with all of the time that it's been in the oven, the software works nicely too. How many of you backed the Pebble on Kickstarter?
