We're here in Las Vegas at CES 2013 where Huawei recently announced two smartphones in its 2013 lineup, the Ascend Mate and Ascend D2. With a giant, 6.1-inch display, the Ascend Mate is the larger of the two smartphones. It comes with a 6.1-inch 720p IPS+ LCD display, 8-megapixel camera, 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 4,050mAh battery and 2GB RAM.
The Ascend Mate comes with a bevy of software features that look and feel inspired by many of its competitors, such as one-handed operation a la Samsung's Galaxy Note II. The build of the phone is solid, though the phone is definitely monstrous and unwieldy.
Huawei doesn't typically deal in the U.S. market and instead has a much larger stake overseas, especially in the Asian market, so I wouldn't expect the Ascend Mate in the U.S., though it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility. The Mate is expected to launch in China in February. If the 6.1-inch giant piques your interests, keep an eye out around Valentine's Day for more launch details. To hold you over until then, I have included a picture gallery below.
