The wave of quad-core Android phones with 5-inch 1080p displays is coming, and according to a new report, Sony's contribution could be shown off as soon as CES in January. This rumor comes to us from Chinese site ePrice, which claims that Sony's Xperia Z (rumored to be the final name of the Yuga) will be shown off at the big show in Las Vegas. A Chinese launch for the Xperia Z is rumored to be coming as soon as mid-January. Meanwhile, a new flavor of the Xperia Z is rumored to be coming under the "Xperia X" moniker, with this model expected to be released in other countries. The X and Z are said to feature similar specs, with the only differences being minor cosmetic ones.
The Sony Yuga was the star of an early preview a little over a week ago, with the unannounced handset rumored to include specs like a 5-inch 1080p display, quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. If these features hold true, the Xperia X/Z would likely earn the title of Sony's highest-end Android smartphone, and ePrice says that it'll be Sony's flagship for at least the first half of the year. There's no word on when we might see the new Xperia here in the U.S. However, Sony has released a couple of its recent Xperia handsets on AT&T, so it wouldn't be a shock to see the big blue operator offer this new unit if it does make its way stateside.
