Looks like T-Mobile USA isn't the only magenta operator that's announcing some major executive change-up news this year. Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile USA, revealed this morning that CEO René Obermann will be leaving the firm. Obermann has asked that his contract end on Dec. 31, 2013. The exec has been with DT for a total of 16 years, seven of which were spent at the head of the company. “I want to go back to having more time for customers, for product development and for technology," Obermann said.

Taking Obermann's place as CEO of Deutsche Telekom will be Timotheus Höttges, who has been with DT since 2000, serving as CFO of the company's German subsidiary and then eventually becoming CFO of the DT group. Höttges will officially claim the title of Deutsche Telekom CEO on Jan. 1, 2014. "As far as I am concerned, he is the best choice to succeed me. I can not think of anyone better suited to continue the developments of the last few years," Obermann said of Höttges, with the two execs adding that they'll be working together to ensure a smooth transition. Höttges added that he's looking forward to his new job and that he plans to invest heavily in the company's networks in both Germany and the USA.
