Windows Phone 8 brought with it several new features, but one of the most notable may be support for over the air updates, meaning that users no longer need to tether their handset to their computer to install the latest software for their phone. The international HTC Windows Phone 8X is now on the receiving end of just such an update, which WPCentral says is codenamed "Portico." After installing the update, the site found that it includes a tweak to keep the phone connected to Wi-Fi after the screen turns off. Also included are new SMS features that allow users to save SMS drafts, a "Select All" option for mass deletion of messages and the ability to reject a phone call and respond with a text message.

While most users likely wouldn't describe the new features found in this Portico update as ground-breaking, they are all tweaks that ought to improve the overall usability of the 8X and any other handsets that it rolls out to. Speaking of rolling out, it's worth noting again that this update is hitting unbranded 8X units. There's been no official word from Microsoft or the carriers about a release here in the U.S., so you AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon 8X folk will have to continue to wait to get your first taste of a Windows Phone 8 over the air update.
