Good news this morning for any BlackBerry users that are eager to get their Wi-Fi calling on, as RIM announced this morning that the new BlackBerry Messenger 7 app with BBM Voice is now available in the BlackBerry App World. BBM Voice allows BBM users to conduct voice chats over a Wi-Fi connection while also retaining the ability to text chat and send images. Also included in BBM 7 is update notifications for the BBM app, the ability to sync a BBM profile, Groups and Contacts with a BlackBerry ID and 16 new emoticons. The new BBM 7 app is available for devices running the BlackBerry 6 OS or higher, though RIM is planning to expand support to BlackBerry 5 OS sometime in early 2013.
While BBM 7 and BBM Voice have been available to customers in the BlackBerry Beta Zone since their announcement in mid-November, it's good to see RIM make the new app available in the App World less than a month after its reveal. BBM Voice may not be the first implementation of Wi-Fi calling on BlackBerry, but it could see some swift adoption from BlackBerry fans since it's baked directly into the BBM app. BlackBerry Messenger 7 can be found in the App World right here. RIM notes that the app could take up to 24 hours to appear in its storefront, so if you don't see it now, check back a bit later.
