When ASUS first took the wraps off of the PadFone 2 in October, the company said that the new tablet-docking device would be coming to market with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in tow, but it also promised that an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was coming. The good news is that the wait to find out what a PadFone 2-flavored Jelly Bean tastes like didn't last long, as ASUS has begun pushing out the Android 4.1.1 update to its new handset. ASUS's Taiwanese arm announced the availability of the update on its official Facebook page, and FoneArena has received the Jelly Bean bump on its PadFone 2.
Once the Android 4.1.1 update is installed, PadFone 2 owners can expect to find new features like expandable notifications and Google Now, which provides cards the user with information cards on things like the weather, traffic and sports scores. Original PadFone owners that want access to those features will be pleased to hear that that update is progressing, though ASUS doesn't have a rollout date to share quite yet.
Some folks may have been a bit disappointed that the PadFone 2 was announced with Android 4.0 earlier this year, so it's good to see that ASUS was able to quickly push out the handset's Android 4.1 update. There's been no word yet from ASUS on when or if the PadFone 2 will see an official release in the U.S., but if you've been thinking about importing a unit so that you don't have to wait around for such a launch, at least you can do so knowing that the device's Jelly Bean update has been released.
