Amazon today announced some updates for a pair of its Kindle Fire tablets that include some new software that owners may want to check out. The 7-inch Kindle Fire HD is receiving an update to software version 7.2.2, which brings with it a Camera app so that users can take shots with the front-facing camera, the Swype keyboard and Kindle FreeTime Unlimited. The last item on that list is a new Amazon app that offers kid-friendly content and blocks web browsing and in-app purchases. FreeTime also allows parents to set up individual profiles and time limits for children. The FreeTime app is available for $4.99 per month for one child or $9.99 for up to six kids. Amazon Prime members get a bit of discount, with pricing set at $2.99 or $6.99, respectively.
The second generation Kindle Fire is also on the receiving end of a new update. The Fire will be bumped up to software version 10.2.3, and owners of the 7-inch slate can expect to find both Swype and the Kindle FreeTime Unlimited app installed on their device once the update dust settles. Both it and the Kindle Fire HD's update are being delivered wirelessly to devices now. Impatient owners that need to start Swyping or snapping photos as soon as possible can initiate the update process by swiping down from the top of their device's display and tapping Sync. Be sure to give us a shout in the comments below once you Kindle Fire and 7-inch Kindle Fire HD owners get the new software up and running. Bonus points if you do so using the Swype keyboard!
