Rumors of a Microsoft-made smartphone have been floating around for while now, and although the company has previously said that it has no plans to create its own handset, a new report has claimed that such a device is currently in testing. Sources speaking to the Wall Street Journal say that Microsoft is currently testing a smartphone design with its Asia suppliers, though it's not yet clear if the product will actually enter mass production. One of the tipsters added that the phone has a screen that measures between four and five inches in size.
While it's not yet known if a Microsoft smartphone will ever actually see the light of retail stores, these latest reports make it sound as though the Redmond company is at least toying with the idea of following its own Surface tablet with its own-brand handset. Microsoft has been backing manufacturers like HTC and Nokia with their new Windows Phone 8 efforts, so it may be a bit before a Microsoft-made phone would actually launch, especially since the first wave of Windows Phone 8 devices are only starting to launch to the public this month. Still, it'd definitely be interesting to see what Microsoft could come up with when creating its own smartphone, and such a device would likely garner quite a bit of attention.
