Samsung recently posted a Jelly Bean update support page on its website, and on it the company says that the U.S. Galaxy S III upgrades are all "coming soon." Today Samsung issued an official statement on the matter, saying that it plans to update all Galaxy S III models in the U.S. to Android 4.1 "in the coming months," with each carrier due to announce the specific release details for its Galaxy S III. The update will be released both over the air and through Samsung's Kies software, and each operator will also reveal which update method its customers will use.
As for the enhancements that'll be packed into the Galaxy S III's Jelly Bean update, we're told to expect camera enhancements like new filters and low light mode, a Blocking Mode to disable things like alerts and calls, a Pop Up Play update and a few other improvements. Also included are the usual Jelly Bean goodies like Google Now and improved notifications.
This new "in the coming months" timeframe isn't really any more precise than the "coming soon" one that we've had for a couple of weeks now. Still, at least Samsung has provided us with a new statement on the S III's Jelly Bean update, which ought to make this Wednesday a little better for the anxious owners of the device. Now we just have to sit and wait for announcements from the individual carriers. When they'll begin popping up is a mystery, but once they do, you can bet that you'll be the first ones we tell. Stay tuned.
