Verizon hasn't exactly been the carrier to be on for Windows Phone fans, as Big Red has only offered a single device running Microsoft's mobile OS to date. It sounds like that could change later this year, though, as a Verizon executive has told CNET that the carrier plans to offer "multiple" Windows Phone devices during the fourth quarter. Verizon CMO Tami Erwin shared the news, although she didn't specify how many models are coming or which manufacturers they'll be from. When asked whether or not a Nokia-made phone will hit Verizon, COO Marni Walden said that the big red operator plans to work with Nokia, but she wouldn't elaborate on when that might happen.
It's also worth noting that BlackBerry fans on Verizon have something to look forward to, as Erwin also revealed that Verizon plans to offer a BlackBerry 10 smartphone once the platform launches in Q1 2013. No other details were mentioned.
Verizon has already said that it supports Windows Phone 8, but today's news is still good for fans of the platform, especially since the lone Windows Phone device on Big Red is the HTC Trophy, which launched in May 2011. Considering Verizon's size, I'm sure that Microsoft would be happy to see more Windows Phones on the carrier as well. As for what devices Verizon may offer, a recent rumor claimed that a Nokia device is indeed in the cards for Verizon later this year, with a separate report alleging that it may be a model similar to the Lumia 820 codenamed "Atlas." Obviously there's still a lot of unknown here, but it certainly sounds like Windows Phone fans on Verizon will have a lot to look forward to in the coming months.
