Motorola DROID RAZR HD, DROID RAZR MAXX HD and DROID RAZR M officially introduced

DROID RAZR HD

Motorola kicked off the second event of the day in New York City this afternoon, and the company used it to introduce the DROID RAZR HD for Verizon. The DROID RAZR HD features a 4.7-inch 720p Super AMOLED HD display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 4G LTE connectivity. Packed inside the RAZR HD's 8.4mm body is a 2,530mAh battery as well as 1GB RAM and 16GB storage, which can be supplemented with a microSD card. The RAZR HD also features an 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel shooter on its face. As for which version of Android it'll run, Motorola says that the RAZR HD will come with Android 4.0.4 preloaded, but will be updated to Jelly Bean before the end of the year.

Moving on to the MAXX, the DROID RAZR MAXX HD packs many of the same features as the the DROID RAZR HD, including a 4.7-inch 720p display and 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The battery is the big difference between the two, as the RAZR MAXX HD includes a 3,300mAh battery (same as the RAZR MAXX) in a body that measures 9.3mm thick. The RAZR MAXX HD also includes 32GB of storage and a microSD slot. Like the RAZR HD, the RAZR MAXX HD will come to market with Android 4.0.4 but will be updated to Android 4.1 before 2012 wraps up.

Finally, we've got the DROID RAZR M. This one's the smallest of the bunch, featuring a 4.3-inch qHD (960x540) Super AMOLED Advanced display. There's a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage included, as well as a microSD slot. When it comes to cameras, the RAZR M comes with an 8-megapixel shooter around back and a VGA camera around front. A 2,000mAh battery powers the 8.3mm thick RAZR M, which will also come preloaded with Android 4.0.4 but will be updated to Jelly Bean this year.

So when can you Verizon folk get your mitts on these new RAZRs? The RAZR M is coming the soonest (in both black and white), with pre-orders starting today and a launch going down on September 13. Pricing for the RAZR M will be set at $99.99 with a two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate. Meanwhile, both the RAZR HD (in both black and white) and the RAZR MAXX HD (in black only) will be launching "before the holidays."

Fans of tinkering with their Android devices will be glad to hear that Motorola is also planning to release developer editions of both the DROID RAZR M and DROID RAZR HD. The devices will have bootloaders that can easily be unlocked using Motorola's software tools and will only be sold through Motorola's website. The DROID RAZR M Developer Edition is available for pre-order now for $549.99 and will launching on September 13. Folks pining for the DROID RAZR HD Developer Edition will need to wait for their device, as Motorola is only allowing interested customers to register to receive updates about the handset.

There were also some interesting tidbits of news not related to the new DROID RAZRs announced at today's event. First of all, Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside revealed that Moto plans to update "most" of its 2011 Android devices to Jelly Bean soon. No specific products or release dates were mentioned, but the exec did go on to say that customers with a device that won't be updated will receive a $100 credit to put toward a new product.

At the start of the event, Google's own Eric Schmidt took to the stage to talk about mobile phones and the state of Android. Schmidt revealed that there are now 1.3 million Android devices activated daily, 70,000 of which are tablets. The exec also touted the size of Android's install base, which is now up to around 480 million products.
